A: The Uplift Foundation of Nevada is a 501C3 nonprofit organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of youth and their families throughout the Las Vegas Valley. Uplift’s Core 4 Programs annually serve and empower nearly 1,000 youth.

A: The organization was formed in 2002 by members of the Kappa Xi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., to expand the depth, breadth and reach of Omega’s service programs. Its status as a separate, distinct and independent organization allowed Uplift to establish and sustain diverse partnerships to aid its mission of empowering youth. The Internal Revenue Service issued formal nonprofit status to Uplift in January 2003.

A. The programs are: The Omega Gents program is a year-round mentoring organization for boys in the 6th through 12th grades, which provides positive male role models, life skills development, guidance and academic and social support. Our College Scholarships program provides financial support to African-American males heading off to college. Recipients are selected based on academics, financial need, community service and extracurricular activities. Under our Youth Development/Advocacy program, we host annual events such as the Youth & Justice Forum and the Economic Summit & Student Leadership Conference to provide vital information to youth and their families. Through our Philanthropy program, we provide financial, material and in-kind support to schools, youth, families and the community through activities like the Que Cutz Back-to-School Haircuts program, partnering with health organizations to promote fitness and checkups and more.

A: Developing and sustaining diverse partnerships is a key part of Uplift’s approach. Our list of partners continues to grow and includes the Nevada Black Police Association, the Las Vegas Chapter of the National Bar Association, the Black Law Students Association at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the Public Education Foundation, UNLV’s Early Admissions Office, the 20 Pearls Foundation, the Theta Theta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Las Vegas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Kappa Xi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the Epsilon Psi Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Parent Citywide and others. Longtime financial supporters include AT&T Nevada, Bank of Nevada, Caesars Entertainment, Charles Schwab Bank, the NV Energy Foundation, SCE Federal Credit Union, Southwest Gas Corporation and others.

A: The Uplift Foundation annually serve and empower nearly a thousand youth through our Core 4 Programs. We mentor six to 12 young men in the Omega Gents program; annually award $10,000 to $20,000 in scholarships; educate hundreds of students via the annual Youth & Justice Forum and the annual Economic Summit & Student Leadership Conference; donate 50-100 pairs of new shoes each year to students at H.P. Fitzgerald Elementary; provide fully-stocked food baskets every Thanksgiving to low-wealth families; give away dozens of toys to underprivileged youth during Christmas; and assist organizations like Parent Citywide and other civic and nonprofit groups through financial, material and volunteer support.
